Arklow to Dun Laoghaire Row - Fundraising Event This was our first significant row as well as our first indication of how we might handle both ourselves and the boat on a passage. We departed Arklow just after 3pm on Saturday, the 23rd of July and arrived into Dun Laoghaire, 40 miles later, at 10am on Sunday. Overall we were very happy with our trip, we rowed for 7 hours as far as Greystones, where we pulled in for 6 hours sleep while the tide turned. Rowing against the tide and the wind is significantly harder than rowing with them. Using Mother Nature as much as possible is central to our Atlantic crossing so it was important to start doing this straight away. This was our first time sleeping on the boat overnight and its safe to say sleeping on the Christina will be absolutely no problem at all as we were both a bit tired. We pulled out of Greystones at 4am and arrived into Dun Laoghaire just before 10am. It was amazing how refreshed we both felt after a few hours sleep. This leg of our trip was a little choppy and made slightly more difficult by a fresh northwesterly wind in our face. Overall very happy with the trip. We know it’s only a drop in the ocean when compared with the Atlantic but you’ve got to start somewhere and this was a good start. |
