09 February 2006 - Dreaming of English Harbour!

What do we think about? What will we want to do first? What are the priorities?
How about some of these for starters :

A Real shower
Real food
Clean clothes
A couple of cans of Coke
A sleep in a real bed for longer than 2 hours
Cheese and Pumpkin crackers for Tori
A plate of chips with vinegar for Paul
An Irish Coffee ( or 2 )
A hairdo for Tori
A shave for Paul

Now that speeds have improved, we can begin to allow ourselves to think about life’s little luxuries and the wonderful thoughts of coming ashore and being re-united with family and friends. Tori’s Dad ,Tom , is quite a dab hand around the barbecue and even at this far remove we can clearly smell the aroma of his speciality steaks.

We understand a few wags back home have wondered are we going a bit quicker because we have eaten the weight of over 70 days food – answer is no – we are experiencing some very useful weather conditions at last and hence the much improved speeds. Hopefully we will have these conditions to the finish but out here you can never be sure. Up until about a week ago we had been fighting against a strong current, which was pushing us, south and we needed to gain some northerly latitude. Antigua is about 17 degrees north and it is important that we maintain that bearing as we do not wish to make any stopovers !

There is no way we are going to be towed the last few miles to Antigua – Christina and the Kavanagh Brothers came into English Harbour before under oar and we intend that she and we will do it again !

Hopefully, for our next diary we will have something to tell you about Antigua!!!
